The state of the main road into Millport need resurfacing as well as Largs!

That is the message from island resident Alan Green who has taken these photographs of the potholes on the main road into Millport from the Cumbrae ferry.

Alan, who lives in Marine Parade, said: "It is nice to see the recent coverage that Largs is getting some road resurfacing. These particular pictures show some of the collapse of the main road into Millport from the ferry.

"A few months ago our friends from Irvine came and sprayed white paint around most of the holes, presumably in the hope that this might cure them. Alas, to no avail!

"The paint wore away, and the holes just got deeper. Perhaps a different colour of paint should be issued to the council’s road engineers next time."

Alan's comments come as a result of major road resurfacing works on Largs Main Road and Greenock Road later this year.

The Millport route is also popular with cyclists, while North Ayrshire Council are looking at building another cycle path with the over-riding aim of taking cyclists and pedestrians off the road between the ferry terminal and Millport.

The sustainable transport charity has awarded North Ayrshire Council £125,000 of ‘Community Links’ funding to help deliver the ambitious project. The first cycle path on the island was built last year.
