The full ferocity of recent storms has resulted in an unusual problem in Largs with damaged solar panels.
Inspector Joe Conway of Largs Police stated that they received a number of reports of the renewable energy materials coming down in the storms from people's roofs.
One such example was the solar panels erected on St.John's Church, near Largs seafront.
Inspector Conway said: "We were taken by surprise by the number of reports - given that the solar panel manufacturers tend to come to America, you would have thought that they would be aware of storms, and high winds, particularly where they come from."
Allister McGregor of St John's Church confirmed to the 'News' that two of their panels were blown off during Storm Gertrude.
He said: "The contractors are looking at it and in the process of getting everything sorted. We were told that they had never had one come off before - he is devastated - so it is quite surprising to hear that there have been other problems in the area.
"We are a very high roof being in the church - and they have been up since the May and create electricity which we feed it into our supply - and we get money back for the electricity we don't use."
Funding for the solar panels came from the Kelburn Wind Farm, and of course, there is a proposal to build a solar farm in Millport, while just in the past week, North Ayrshire Council gave planning permission for a solar farm at Hunterston.
