It’s one of the best ways to leave the cares of life behind - fly fishing.

With first class trout sport in and around Largs, there has never been a better time to start - or pick up the rod that has been gathering dust in the shed.

Largs and District Angling Club is currently recruiting new members with three dams and two burns on offer.

Muirhead Reservoir, on the road to Kilbirnie, is the club’s main water and home to top-quality, hard-fighting brown trout.

The club has angling rights on two other dams - Crosbie in the hills above West Kilbride, and Outerwards on the glen road which are both stocked with trout.

The permit also includes the Gogo and Noddle burns where as well as the native brown trout, there are runs of sea trout.

The club members are a friendly bunch and will happily pass on tips about where to fish and the best flies to use.

They also run regular competitions and outings.

The club is holding its fee-paying nights at JG Sharps Bar in Nelson Street, Largs next Tuesday and Thursday, February 23 and 25, from 7.30pm-9pm, so if you are interested just come along.
