Largs Rotary's Dragon Boat Race comes roaring into town on Saturday September 3 at the RNLI slip.

The Rotary urgently need local groups to get involved in the fun water based activity to raise funds for good causes.

Bookings for boats are starting to come in but Largs Rotary has had to set a deadline for these to ensure the event goes ahead.

To make sure you can be a part of the adventure your booking must be received by July 14 at the latest.

The day promises to be spectacular and fun-filled, packed with excitement for competitors and spectators alike. No experience is necessary and those who have tried it in the past recommend it as a great way of building team spirit while at the same time raising much-needed charity funds.

So what do you need to do? Well, most importantly you need to act soon. Teams consist of 17 competitors, one of whom is the drummer while the rest paddle. The entry fee per person is £25 making a total of £435 per boat. Once your team has paid the entry fee then each member raises sponsor money from friends and family. Largs Rotary is supporting RNLI and Erskine for this event and would like at least some of the sponsor money to go to them but if you have your own charities you want to support that's fine too.

But be quick - remember that deadline - July 14th!

* Largs Rotary Club recently played host to a group from Erskine Hospital recently.

Visitors and hosts enjoyed an excellent lunch of fish and chips, before having a conducted tour of the local RNLI station.

By coincidence, during the visit, an emergency call was received, which gave the visitors the opportunity to see at first hand, how efficient the local crew was assembled and prepared. Fortunately it was a false alarm, but a most impressive display nevertheless.

The club has for years supported Erskine, and is always a benefactor when charitable donations are made.

'Change-over Day' is fast approaching, when President Catherine Black stands down, to be followed by Ron Muir, who will keep the momentum going, for the next Rotary Year.
