Heralded as one of the most influential Christian leaders in the west, Brian McLaren is giving a lecture at St Columba's Parish Church in Largs in October.
It is Scotland's only venue as part of a prestigious UK tour.
Turning 60 this year, Brian is a prominent Christian pastor, author, activist and speaker and leading figure in the emerging church movement. He is also associated with postmodern Christianity and progressive Christianity and is a major figure in post-evangelical thought.
Brian has often been named one of the most influential Christian leaders in America and was recognized by Time Magazine as one of the 25 Most Influential Evangelicals in America in 2005.
A former college English teacher and pastor, he is described as an "ecumenical global networker among innovative Christian leaders".
Brian has been active in networking and mentoring church pastors since the mid 1980's, and assisted in the development of several new churches. He is a popular conference speaker and a frequent guest lecturer for denominational and ecumenical leadership gatherings - across the US and Canada, Latin America, Europe, Africa, and Asia.
His public speaking covers a broad range of topics including postmodern thought and culture, Biblical studies, evangelism, leadership, global mission, spiritual formation, worship, pastoral survival and burnout, inter-religious dialogue, ecology, and social justice.
Brian's books explore the theme of the kingdom of God in the teachings of Jesus, and how Jesus' message confronts contemporary global crises, and how the use of ancient traditions and practices enrich spiritual formation today.
A frequent guest on television, radio, and news media programmes, Brian has appeared on Larry King Live on CNN. His work has also been covered in Time, Christianity Today, Christian Century, the Washington Post, Huffington Post, CNN.com
