It looks like the end of an era for the Victoria Hotel, as Cunninghame Housing Association have put forward plans to convert the derelict seafront site into housing.

The seafront pub and restaurant has been in existence for Largs for over 80 years, although it has been closed since 2009, after it was a busy entertainment venue for live music acts including The Alarm, Colin Hay of Men at Work fame, Spencer Davis of 'Keep on Running' fame, and many others.

However, the eyesore site has fallen into a state of disrepair, and is set to be converted into private property.

A special meeting will be taking place at the Brisbane House Hotel, by the housing association, to discuss their next steps with the development.

The association, who work in partnership with NAC and the Scottish Government, have prepared proposals to build flats for rent at the site.

The proposals will be presented to the community at an information day event at the Brisbane on Tuesday 15 November from 3pm-6.30pm

The new development will comprise a retail unit on the ground floor which will be owned and leased out by another party.

Above this will be 12 one bedroom flats for rent and all will be accessible by lift and stairs.

The purpose of the event on the 15th is to seek the views of local people on the plans, with waiting list applicants and neighbours also invited to the event.

The contract will be delivered on behalf of the Association by RDK Construction and the new building has been designed by Stewart Associates.

Frank Sweeney, Chief Executive, Cunninghame Housing Association Ltd, said: "We are hoping that works will start next April 2017 and be complete the following March 2018. The properties will be let via the North Ayrshire Common Housing Register to elderly applicants.

The site is included within the new Strategic Housing Investment Plan (SHIP) which will be submitted to North Ayrshire Council’s Cabinet at the end of November 2016.
