The sudden death of a popular Millport man, Colin McCuaig, who was a well known scooter enthusiast, was particularly felt among the local community, and beyond.

Colin, also known by his nickname 'Coldo' had been a Millport resident for the past eleven years, and his untimely passing came as a great shock.

He leaves behind his partner Jane and their two young sons Shaun and Murray.

Colin's popularity among his friends in the scootering community was evidenced by the number of scooters which turned out to escort the hearse at his funeral.

Wanting to mark his passing in some appropriate way, the idea of raising money for a local charity was discussed and friends of Colin's set up a 'Just Giving' page with the aim of raising £1000 to buy a defibrillator for the Isle of Cumbrae in his memory.

The idea was that people who may have wanted to send flowers, could be encouraged to donate to this good cause instead.

At the time of writing, the amount of money raised in memory of Colin stands at a magnificent £4,255, with the community council voicing their support for the idea.

Speaking on behalf of Colin's friends and family, Alwyn Ferguson said: "What a wonderful and fitting way to mark the passing of a young man who loved the island and his life in Millport. Readers who wish to donate can still do so at www.justgiving.com by searching for the name Coldo."
