Residents to the north of Largs raised the alarm after concerns involving 'blue flashing lights' and 'digging' coming from woods at the Netherhall area.

The 'News' was also made aware of the situation on Saturday evening at 10pm, with one resident Scotty McLean saying: "Something is happening in the woods behind my house  ... a team are digging at 10pm in Netherhall."

However, there was no reason for any alarm according to the police.

Inspector Brian Skimming explained: "No notification was given to police that this was going to take place and there was no statutory requirement to do so as when we attended it was a group of students who apparently had permission to be there and were filming for their university project.

"Details were obtained and two members of the public who had reported "blue flashing light and digging" were contacted and updated."
