It was a case of changing the guard at Largs Rotary with the arrival of a new president.

At their regular meeting held at the Willowbank Hotel in Largs, retiring president Ron Muir gave a detailed report on his time in office, mentioning the assistance of all present, in raising funds for the many charities throughout the last year,

Ron carried out his time in the chair with authority, dignity, and humour, in the tradition of past Rotary presidents.

New President Ian Berwick, was quick to recognise the task to come. He has already been involved in most workings of the club, and will no doubt carry on the tradition of Largs Rotary in a similar fashion. Once again the club acknowledges the assistance of the Kelburn Wind Farm Trust for future youth projects.

* Largs Rotary sponsors a number of annual youth projects with local schools. These include Young Chef a school cooking competition, EuroScholar a visit by a pupil to the European Parliament, RYLA for pupils to attend youth leadership courses and the Robertson Trophy - a primary schools quiz.

* An ongoing international project is the eradication of polio. The success we saw in the fight to end polio this year -- with polio-free milestones reached in Nigeria and the African continent -- wouldn't be possible without the support of health workers, local governments, Rotary and Global Polio Eradication Initiative partners

* Largs Rotary were pleased to donate £400 to Erskine recently. Erskine cares for over 1,000 residents each year; their homes provide veterans with the companionship of like-minded people. Erskine’s person-centred care is tailored to the needs of each individual veteran. All bedrooms are equipped with full disabled access and en-suite facilities. Recreation facilities provide social activities, entertainment and organised day or evening trips which are of huge importance to residents’ health and wellbeing. In addition, cottages for veterans and their families have been a feature of the Erskine 80 acre estate for many years.
