Lifting the spirits in January is the aim of the first January concert in the Cathedral of Isles in Millport for many years.
There will be a concert of songs and piano music this Sunday including three singers and a pianist who are all senior students at the Royal Scottish Conservatoire in Glasgow
Two sopranos, Myrna Tennent and Heloïse Bernard as well as baritone Laurens Macklon and pianist Javier José Ucendo Malo will present an hour's programme which will include French , German and Spanish songs as well as Russian piano music. Among the composers represented will be Mendelssohn, Schubert , Ravel and Granados.
The concert will end with duets which are settings of poems by Robert Burns. So, a truly international concert performed by some of our best young artists.
A delightful beginning to the New Year. As usual, entry will be free, and there will be a retiring collection for the Cathedral's Musical Resources Fund. Refreshments will be served afterwards in the Cloisters, and everyone will be made welcome.
