A special fundraiser is taking place in Largs to send a teenager to Spain to receive vital treatment to prevent paralysis.

Ylena Lucy Green suffers from a severe form of connective tissue disorder Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome affecting all her joints and even digestive system.

Most critically, Ylena’s neck painfully dislocates at the slightest movement. Left untreated it could lead to paralysis and even death.

Unfortunately the specialist treatment the 18 year old needs is not available in the UK (NHS or private).

She urgently needs lifesaving neuro-surgery only available in America or Spain (Spain being chosen as it is closer to home). For Ylena to receive this treatment the family must raise £130,000 as in this case the EHIC card cannot be used.

Ylena is the daughter of former Largs resident Letitia Goodwin.

To help raise money for this cause a fundraiser of “Soup and a Roll” is being held on Saturday 10 February in Clark Memorial Church Hall from 12 noon-2pm. Tickets available from Best Fruit Company, Tron Place Largs or contact Marie Ann 673863.

Donations of Raffle/Tombola prizes and home baking would be very welcome and if anyone would like to help on the day they would be very much appreciated. Contact Marie Ann on 673863.

Once Ylena has had her surgery the bill must be paid in full 8 weeks later and at time of going to print just under £119,000 has been raised by two very generous donations and lots of fundraising. Ylena still has relatives in Largs and surrounding areas.

Please come along, dig deep and help improve Ylena’s life.
