Reports of a fishing boat in trouble off Rothesay resulted in Largs lifeboat being deployed.
The call was put forward to Largs Lifeboat by the coastguard on Wednesday morning.
The lifeboat launched at 11.55am following reports of a 16 metre vessel adrift off Rothesay having suffered mechanical breakdown.
Dave Hewitt of Largs RNLI said: "The lifeboat with its volunteer crew members launched into south west force 7 with rough sea conditions and proceeded to Rothesay Sound.
"When approximately halfway across the lifeboat received information that the casualty had managed to regain the shore without any additional assistance."
The lifeboat then returned to Largs, was refuelled, washed down and rehoused at 12.35pm.
