Extrovert lawyer and former Rangers vice-chairman Donald Findlay will take centre stage at this year's Largs Thistle Sportsmen's Dinner.

The football fundraiser has attracted many big names over the years including Frank McAvennie, Alan Rough, Tam Cowan, Chick Young... and even your chairman for the evening, Drew Cochrane.

Donald Findlay was appointed vice-chairman of Rangers by Sir David Murray, and is renowned as one of Scotland's most successful lawyers who was inspired as a child by the 1950s TV series Boyd QC

However, despite many associating with his Ibrox role of years gone by, Donald is now very much a died in the wool Blue Brazilian these days, rather than a Bluenose, as the 67 year old is currently chairman of Cowdenbeath FC.

Although not as well known, the other guest speaker on the Thistle fundraising evening is Joe Camay who has been a telephone engineer, a bookie and ran a unisex clothing store.

Joe's comedy ''career'' began at the sharp end in social clubs and he had a quick taste of TV when he appeared in a comedy series with amongst others, Alan Stewart and Dave Spikey. Over the next few years more TV appearances followed with the likes of Alaistar McGowan, Bill Bailley, Lee Evans and Fred McAulay. Joe was also featured in three TV adverts for Belhaven beer.

He has appeared on television with comedy legend Bob Monkhouse, and in numerous theatres around Britain, and has worked in Northern Ireland, Dubai and Florida, and is very much in demand.

The Largs Thistle Sportsmen's Dinner is the traditional big fundraiser for the club which includes a sports auction with a range of memorabilia from footballing history including signed jerseys, photos and matchballs.

And usually there are legendary players from Thistle's past in attendance, along with the current management and team which is always a fast, fun and entertaining evening with hilarity throughout.

The dinner takes place at Nardini's Restaurant in Largs on Saturday April 28, with a 7.30pm kick-off. For tickets, contact the Largs Thistle committee or email p_connor2@sky.com
