Organiser of a mammoth charity challenge across Ayrshire are making a plea for even more people to sign up.

Last year, a team of 38 people completed a 44-mile walk from Ayr to the former village of Glenbuck, near Muirkirk, last summer to raise funds for Ayrshire Hospice.

Organised by Craig Burns and a team of trusty walkers, close to 100 have already signed up for this year's challenge, with the team hoping to further extend that number.

For this year's walk, the team will be taking a stride in the opposite direction, from Glenbuck to Ayr.

Almost £16,000 was raised for Ayrshire Hospice at last year's event.

This year's walk will take place on Saturday, June 8, with Craig eager for as many people as possible to join in.

He said: "It was a great day last year and we're just looking to make it bigger and better this year and get as many people involved as we can.

"We've had a great response already and it seems like there's a lot of people keen to join in.

"Ayrshire Hospice is something that will have helped someone you know or someone close to you, so they do so much great work in Ayrshire.

"Last year we had wee water stops and people can take a breather when they want or need it."

The average walker would take around 10 hours to complete the challenge, and Craig says he's happy to offer advice to those who need it.

He added: "I've got a wee group chat set up for people wanting to do it and for anybody wanting to ask any questions.

"There are some people who haven't done anything like that before, so I can give people wee tips and bits of advice if they need it."
