Fairlie has successfully renewed Fairtrade Village status for two years.
The village was first awarded the status in 2004 in reflection of the high level within the community including business, school and church.
Fairlie Fairtrade Initiative will be taking part in campaigns, including the UK-wide Fairtrade Fortnight at the end of February, when they will join the North Ayrshire Fairtrade Zone group to promote Fairtrade in Irvine town centre, and will also hold a fairtrade tea party in Fairlie with monthly stalls at Fencebay Farmers Market, and at Fairlie Parish Church.
Adam Gardner, of the Fairtrade Foundation, said: “We’re very pleased that Fairlie has renewed their fairtrade status with exciting goals to take fairtrade further. Thanks to the ongoing support, an increasing number of farmers in developing countries are now selling their products on fairtrade terms, bringing a stable income, and the chance to trade their way out of poverty.”
