The clocks are moving forward this weekend, and it is perhaps timely that we are looking forward to longer evenings, as problems have persisted with the festoon lighting in Largs and Millport.
British Summertime is arriving on Sunday, and you should move your clocks forward an hour at 1am.
Last year, Millport illuminations along the seafront were taken down in mid-summer, but the rush was on to get the new lighting erected in time for the September illuminations weekend.
However, some of the lights have been dogged with continual problems ever since,
A North Ayrshire Council spokesperson said: “We have identified an issue with the recently-installed Millport festoon lighting and are working with the suppliers to ensure a solution is found as soon as possible.
“It was agreed with the local community council that switching off the remaining operating sections of the lighting would be better for aesthetic reasons in the interim period.
“We can confirm that the materials for Largs promenade festoon were from a different supplier and are not affected.
“Unfortunately, vandalism has caused damage to the festoon lighting in Largs and we are working to ensure that repairs are carried out.
“We would also appeal to anyone who observes any vandalism to report it to the Police for appropriate action to be taken against the inconsiderate individuals.”
