Largs man Walter Smith has won the Educational Supporter of the Year award at the Scottish Education Award ceremony held at the Doubletree by Hilton, Glasgow last week.
Walter, who is a volunteer, has for more than 15 years played a key role in supporting young people in North Ayrshire schools through his business adviser role in enterprise and employability programmes to raise attainment and achievement for pupils.
Walter, who was nominated by Greenwood Academy, Dreghorn was recognised for not only his support to Greenwood Academy but also for supporting many schools throughout North, South and East Ayrshire including Largs Academy in implementing innovative school projects aimed at improving pupils’ employability skills.
His involvement in supporting the young people of Ayrshire includes being the Prince’s Trust Ayrshire Chair and a member of the Developing Young Workforce Ayrshire Steering Group.
“While, in theory, Walter has retired his drive has encouraged others to thrive,” said his nomination.
