The 'News' asked North Ayrshire Council what fire precautions have been put in place at the new Largs Campus.

Given the ongoing concerns raised by Largs Community Council in relation to traffic management in the vicinity, we also asked about protocols that have been put in place in relation to emergency access.

Between May and June, a sprinkler system was installed at the campus.

A North Ayrshire Council spokesperson said: “The new Largs Campus building has been constructed to the highest standards of fire safety by Morrison Construction and has been approved by North Ayrshire Council’s Building Control officers.

“Approximately 95% of the building at the Campus is brick-facing with a small element of rainscreen cladding.

“The fire alarm system for the new Largs Campus is a Category L1 addressable automatic system which complies with British Standards fire detection and alarm systems (BS 5839-1:2013). An automatic fire suppression system is also being installed throughout the building.

“Emergency access routes to the building, along with fire hydrant locations, have been identified as part of the fire strategy for Largs Campus.”
