Sportscotland are looking for a new sports chief to direct operations at both Inverclyde Sports Centre and Cumbrae Watersports Centre.
The advert for the new position states: "We are currently recruiting for a new Head of Centre to provide inspirational leadership across both sites to a multi skilled workforce to lead a team of senior managers that are delivering a diverse range of sport and fitness programmes on behalf of sportscotland, key partners and the community."
The position is now being advertised, following the departure of John Kent, who recently retired after overseeing the transition from the old centre to the modern state of the art equivalent which was recently officially opened by First Minister Nicola Sturgeon.
Stewart Harris, Chief Executive, sportscotland, said: “During his 37 years at Inverclyde, 22 of those as Principal, John has played a significant role in the history and development of the sportscotland national centres Inverclyde and Cumbrae. He has worked tirelessly to ensure that the centres delivered as much for the local community as for the wider Scottish sporting landscape and that ethos will serve as his legacy for years to come.
“This marks the start of a new chapter both for Inverclyde and for John and his family. The £12million redevelopment has seen the centre transformed into a unique and inclusive residential sports facility, while preserving the exceptional service the centre’s reputation was built on during John’s time in charge.
“John leaves the centre and its team in great shape for the exciting challenges that lie ahead and I hope he now has time to reflect on his considerable contribution to Scottish sport. We wish him a long and happy retirement.”
