Police and fire engines rushed to Largs Main Street on Thursday afternoon as a Ford Focus was ablaze.
Shops were evacuated as smoke and a series of mini-explosions occurred.
Lissa Tognini said: "It was very dramatic. The fire brigade weren't there and police were running about. It kept popping as there seemed to be a number of explosions. It was quite scary." The fire brigade arrived on the scene and extinguished the blaze at around 2.45pm on Thursday afternoon.
