Schools throughout the district have closed today on advice from the Scottish Government and the MET office as North Ayrshire Council have given a red warning alert.

STRATHCLYDE POLICE HAVE ISSUED A WARNING NOT TO TRAVEL.

The Largs Yuletide Night, a big shopping spectacular, was due to take place tonight, but is now off. Organisers have spoken to the police and in light of the bad forecast, have reluctantly been forced to cancel.

Duncan Connor, of the Bus Stop Toy Shop, who is one of the organisers said: "It is disappointing but it is the right decision - safety first and foremost is the most important thing. We are having to pull the plug tonight. The weather is getting worse. We have high hopes of being able to reschedule for some time next week . More news soon."

The A78 at Skelmorlie is closed due to localised flooding and high tides
