Three Largs men are expected to appear in private on petition at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Monday in connection with the death of 57 year old man William McLachlan in the early hours of Saturday.
Mr McLachlan's body was found lying near his home in Holehouse Road, Largs, sparking a police hunt for his attackers.
Police helicopter activity in Largs on Monday morning is believed to be connected to the investigations in the death of the former community councillor.
