The A760 Haylie Brae was closed on Tuesday evening after a lorry hit a perimeter wall on the first bend leaving Largs.

The incident happened at around 4.30pm. Police were directing traffic as the road out of Largs was closed, but motorists were still coming down the Haylie Brae, before the road completely re-opened just before 8pm.

Largs man Rob Waller has written a strongly worded letter to local MSP Kenneth Gibson following the incident, and asked “Are we going to have to wait until one of these lorries suffers a brake failure coming down the hill fully loaded and goes into the house, or wipes out other traffic, before the authorities ‘get it’ that the Haylie Brae is not a suitable route for regular convoy-style traffic such as this? I appreciate that Fairlie may be difficult because of A78 Trunk Road status, but the A760 is not.” On the ‘News’ Facebook, Christine Muirhead said: “It’ll take for someone else to be killed before they do something about these trucks. They go far too fast for this road.”
