The Department for Health has issued a warning about the number of websites set up to charge individuals for European Health Insurance Cards (EHICs).

EHICs are normally free for people, ordinarily resident in the UK, which helps individuals get access to state healthcare at a reduced cost, or sometimes for free.

Katy Clark, MP for North Ayrshire and Arran has echoed the Government’s warning: “If you are applying for an European Health Insurance Card then you should not be charged. If you are on a website that is asking for money, then you are not on the official page, and may lose your money and not receive a card at all.

“If you wish to make sure that you are applying to an official website, then visit www.gov.uk/european-health-insurance-card or, alternatively, phone 0300 330 1350. Website scams are proving to be an increasingly common problem, and it is always worthwhile double checking before providing anyone with your financial details.” For more information please contact the office of Katy Clark MP on 01294 605040
