The original plaque to commemorate the unemployed workers who originally built the Bowen Craig path between Anthony Road and the Pencil from 1906 has been restored.
When the new multi-users path was built during the early summer of 2013, the plaque was removed, with the council promising to restore the plaque at another area near Bowen Craig.
The memorial had been taken away for safe-keeping during the £300,000 restoration works which included the widening of the path to include cycling and pedestrian access, with the benefit of subsidy from cycling access group Sustrans amounting to £150,000.
The plaque reads: “This footpath was reconstructed by the Largs Visitors Club in 1906 - assisted by subscription from funds collected for the benefit of the unemployed.” The plaque now features on a mini-Pencil monument nearby its bigger namesake, and was pictured by Ian Dalgleish.
