Youngsters have shown their gymnastic prowess at regional grade qualifiers in Perth.

Local boys Grant Arneil, Kai Chalmers and Kerr Wilson of Brisbane Primary School, Joshua Gregory of Kelburn Primary School, and Alasdair Peacock of Skelmorlie Primary School, competed at the Men’s Artistic Gymnastics event which was held at Bells Sports Centre in Perth on Sunday 21 September.

All five boys competed at their in age Club Development Grade levels. Kai Chalmers was awarded the bronze medal for level 1 while Grant Arneil won the gold medal for level 2. Also at level 2 Joshua Gregory competed at his first 6 piece competition. Alasdair Peacock and Kerr Wilson competed at level 3 and placed fourth and seventh respectively.

Kai, Grant and Alasdair have qualified to compete at their respective levels for Team Scotland at the British Grades Finals which will be held in Birmingham in November.

Kerr will be training with Team Scotland as first reserve.

At Pre-Level 1 Kieran Walker of Dalry and Rob Russell of West Kilbride competed in their first ever 6 piece competition with Kieran securing the bronze medal and Rob placing seventh in the event.

Also competing at the British Grades Finals at level 1 will be Largs Gymnastics Club teammates Robbie Young and Ethan Yates and Philip Hinchcliffe, and at level 2 Matthew McGill and Corrie Gibson.

The boys train 14 hours a week on 6 apparatus under Head Coach Allan McKinnon and Senior Coach Jordan Loughlan at Largs Gymnastics Club at Inverclyde National Sports Training Centre. Recreational classes for children at the Largs facility start at aged 10 months. An adult class is also available for booking.
