An old feathered friend returned to Facebook last week.

George Crawford, our regular photographer contributor, took up the tale, and said: “I first saw this melanistic blackbird on Portencross Road on 27 March last year. Here it is again on almost exactly the same spot, one year on!” You can see more of Geroge’s images on CroftGlenImages.blogspot.co.uk The sun was shining brightly at the Noddelburn on a recent Friday afternoon when reporter Calum Corral was passing by, who said that ‘Spring was in the air - roll on the summer!’ Susan McNicol enthused: “At last!” Rose Gardner said: “Yes, it was a lovely day - I think we’ve a while to go before summer, bring on a dry spring!” And pictures of daffodils and bluebells in the area also gave some other Largs folk a spring in their stride!

Janet Ross said: “Such beautiful pictures, giving hope that spring is now here!” We hope that there will be more positive signs of summer via our new revamped www.largsandmillportnews.com website which will have a weather forecast feature in the coming weeks!

A black and white picture of Cumbrae Parish Church - which is closed due to repairs - was taken by Calum Corral during one of his recent visits to the isle of Cumbrae.

It has been closed since Christmas. The Cumbrae Parish Church website states: “Due to certain repairs required to the Church building, it is temporarily closed. In the meantime, services will be conducted at the following location up to and including Sunday 5th April: Age Concern Hall, Garrison Grounds.

“From Sunday 12th April, we will meet in the DA Hall, Garrison Grounds.” And Peter Watkins provided a lovely perspective of a sunset spectacular over the cliffs of Arran from West Kilbride.
