A Largs mum has paid special tribute to her late daughter by writing a song in her memory.

Sarah Mills was just 33 when she died of cancer in September 2013.

The former Largs Academy dux had studied law at Edinburgh University before moving to London with her husband Jamie, Mum Jackie admitted she is still heartbroken about the loss, but has overcome the pain to write and record a song with her own band - a musical tribute which is quite fitting, as Sarah was the leader of North Ayrshire Schools Orchestra.

The song’s poignant accompanying video shows Sarah and her family down the years, from when she was young, through to her fight with the disease.

Since Sarah’s death, her husband Jamie and other members of her family have been trying to raise funds for charity in her memory. Jackie, a member of local band Cairnie’s Quay, wrote ‘I wish I Could Believe in Angels’ especially for Sarah and hopes that it can help raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Jackie recorded the song with fellow band members Ian McLaren and David Purvis.

Jackie told the News: “Sarah is greatly missed by all who knew her. I felt it was fitting to raise money in her memory for Cancer Research UK. Too many young people are still losing their lives to cancer, and anything we can do to support the work of cancer charities can only help.’ “The loss of Sarah is still very painful for us all. The Youtube song and video are fond and poignant tributes to her, and I’m sure Sarah would have approved of what we’re doing in her name."
