TV celebrity Elaine C Smith admitted she was ‘facing her fears’ as she headed out on the open sea, and went sailing with the Firth of Clyde Coastal Rowing Club for her popular TV programme.

The former Rab C Nesbitt star presents an STV programme ‘Burdz Eye View’, a whimsical TV programme visiting seaside resorts around Scotland, interspersed with clips from her stage show, which takes place at Barrfields Theatre on Wednesday 29 July at 7.30pm.

Visiting Largs Sailing Clubhouse on Monday afternoon, Elaine spoke to women members of the club about their enthusiasm for sailing in the open waters. They included Louise Brobyn, Joan Downie and Kim Foster. The founder of the club, Martin Hughes, was also interviewed about the club and its success.

Elaine was presented with her own Firth of Clyde Coastal Rowing Club T-shirt.

Member Joan Downie told Elaine about the races and regattas which take place, while Kim Foster said that all ages could take part, and spoke about how it was possible to encounter porpoises and seals whilst rowing in some spectacular scenery.

Elaine said: “Making Burdz Eye View was a great opportunity to perform a one woman show in magical places from my childhood and also in locations I have never had a chance to experience before.

“It was a real privilege to meet so many people, especially the women who work in these iconic towns. It offered me a fresh perspective on how lucky I am to live in such a beautiful and diverse country. I hope the audiences enjoy going on holiday with me.” On Tuesday, Elaine visited Millport, where she popped into including The Ritz Cafe and also joined in with a line-dancing class, all of which will feature in the same show.

The programme is not expected to be broadcast until March 2016.
