Largs Viking Festival has announced that, subject to review, the air displays planned for the festival will go ahead as planned, weather permitting.

This follows the Shoreham air disaster last weekend in which at least 11 people were killed when a Hawker Hunter jet crashed on to a road during the Shoreham Airshow.

And this week, the Government announced restrictions on vintage jet aircraft appearances at public displays.

Viking Festival Chair Alex Gallagher told the “News”: “The Government restriction is on the use of vintage jets performing over land. This year the Viking Festival has only propeller driven aircraft and all our displays are over the water off Largs.” “We have been and will continue to be in constant communication with our performers who themselves have sought assurance from the Civil Aviation Authority on this matter.

“The Festival Board will continue to keep the issue under review. The safety of the public and of our pilots and performers is paramount, and we will certainly take no unnecessary risks with public safety.”
