Local photographer Grahame Ross came on to Facebook this week to ask about the origins of a mysterious and ancient sign on the Fairlie shore wall, between Bay Street and Ferry Row.
He said: “I am just back form a walk along Fairlie beach front with my partner Ewa, and spotted this plaque. I can’t make out all the text. It seems old - so what is the history and date? Is it to be part of the new coastal path?” Calum Corral responded: “It has been like that every since I used to climb up there as a boy! Coincidentally I was asking about this very sign just the other week, I gather it is an old bible psalm. I remember, even as a boy, that it was very weather beaten, and difficult to read beyond the opening line, which seems to have survived the test of time. It looks like it has existed for many years.” Does anyone know the origins of the concrete plaque? If so, email editorial@largsnews.co.uk
