A new Fairlie wall plaque commemorating a psalm from the bible is to be erected, next to the original.
In response to last week’s story about the Fairlie plaque mystery on the beach wall, south of Bay Street, Chris Cowpe of Fairlie Church has responded.
He said: "After a suggestion from Rosemary Jarvie, a small group have been meeting over the past 18 months and have secured funding from Fairlie Community Trust to erect a copy of the words alongside the original. The words are from “Psalm 89 v.9” but the origin of the stone is still unclear with a few, so far unsubstantiated, ideas. The new plaque has been made from engraved slate and it is hoped it will be in place in the very near future."
However, the origins of the original sea wall sign remain unclear.
Reader John Cowan suggested; "I always told it was to commemorate a storm , not sure of when."
