Residents are being urged to put the right stuff in the right bin in a bid to reduce the amount of festive waste sent to landfill this year.
According to national figures, we send around one billion Christmas cards, use around 750 million glass bottles and 500 million drinks cans, and buy more than seven million real Christmas trees every year.
Councillor Jim Montgomerie, Cabinet Member for Place, explained: “A lot of the extra rubbish we generate, such as Christmas cards, and extra cans and bottles, can all be recycled in our blue bins.
“You can even recycle your Christmas tree at our Household Waste Recycling Centres, where they’ll be chipped and used for compost."
The area’s Household Waste Recycling Centres will be closed on 25 and 26 December and again on 1 and 2 January – but will be open as normal every other day.
