An elderly couple in their 80s fell victim to a bogus caller, sparking a police warning to the local neighbourhood to be vigilant.
A gardener called at the house in Alexander Avenue in Largs and agreed to do set work for a three figure sum, but took the money and didn't return.
The incident happened at 5pm on Sunday July 2, but the couple didn't report the matter until they realised the gardener in question was not coming back to do the agreed work.
The suspect is described as aged 50, five foot seven, thin build, with short fair hair, and wearing light coloured garden overalls.
Inspector Brian Skimming of Largs Police has reminded residents to always check for official identification, and to enter into a contract first, and to only pay for work once it has been completed.
Police have said that it appears to have been an isolated incident. If you can help, contact the non-emergency telephone number 101.
