Headliner Mark Chesnutt has had to pull out of Millport's big country music celebration this weekend, as festival organisers announce refunds for the Sunday show which will now be a benefit gig for Texas.

Severe flooding has affected roads, electricity and general access in Mark's home town.

On Facebook, Mark said: "Due to Hurricane Harvey and the unsafe conditions around Beaumont and Houston I will be not be flying to Scotland for the Millport festival. Tracie and are safe here at our house, we are certainly lucky. Please pray for the people here in the gulf area, and I want to send out a very big thank you to everyone who is helping out with the rescue efforts. We will survive #gulfstrong"

In a statement issued by Mark's management, a spokesman said: "As you know the Gulf area of Texas was hit hard with a hurricane over the last few days.

"In Beaumont, TX where Mark Chesnutt lives, they received over 30 inches of rain during this storm. Mark cannot leave his house. The streets are flooded and closed. Today the water was shut off to the entire city and electricity is sporadic. The death toll has passed 30 and we fear there will more to come."

Festival chief Gavin Chittick said: "Mark really wanted to make this show and we tried every way possible to get it done. In the end, it was just too dangerous to drive out on the streets. Please let everyone from the Millport Festival know that Mark and his family are safe, but to please pray for the people on the Gulf Coast, it’s going to take a long time get things cleaned up and the area back to normal. We hope we can it make it to Scotland for a show in future."

"We are going to declare Sunday's concert a free benefit show for Texas and carry on with the existing bill plus other artists that we are going to draft in. We want to try to make it special.

"We are offering full refunds to Sunday concert ticket purchasers and 50% to weekend patrons."
