Cumbrae Community Council wish to address the perceived notion that they are pursuing restricting motor home visitors to the island.
For information, a Community Council exists to react to approaches by residents and to be a voice between them and the Council. If there is a topic which would benefit from a public consultation then this will be undertaken. We were approached by some residents after the last festival and are now about to start a public consultation to determine the views of the whole community. Note – we do not have our “own views”, just those of our community. We are all volunteers trying to do our best.
As previously stated in this paper Cumbrae Community Council wish to advise that their interest in camper van parking regulation is a mere investigatory exercise to see what might be involved so that an informed public consultation may be made. There is no wish to deter camper vans visiting the island, why would we do that when our fragile economy is dependant so much on our visitors? We are not “continuing to press for a bye law” as reported, we are "continuing to press NAC on information about what would be involved in establishing a bye law” an entirely different thing. It should also be mentioned here that there are already serviced touring pitches at the Caravan site in Golf Road.
The community can be reassured that we are working in the interests of the entire community and motor home owners can be reassured that we would be keen to see them provided with proper facilities at a suitable location on the island. In these circumstances if there is a way in which we can assist a potential site operator to provide a qualitative and 21st century standard of facility with a full range of the necessary services for our camper van visitors we would be delighted for this to be achieved.
Any suggestions on this matter would be very welcomed.
