Participants in a charity run were singing to The Proclaimers to inspire them on their way around Cumbrae on Saturday!

The charity for Parkinsons Disease ‘Michael’s Movers’ held their annual charity run - The ‘Millport 10 miler’ - which attracted an impressive 260 runners, joggers and walkers. The atmosphere at the finishing line was fantastic with everyone given massive encouragement for the last lap along the prom.

Ale Nardini of Largs said: “I have just completed the Millport 10 miler, and what an event. It has a great vibe good organisation, and a very worthy cause. The weather was gorgeous, and it was very well supported. We even sang the famous Proclaimers hit ‘I would run 10 Millport miles!’ The charity was set up by former Millport couple Michael and Maria Righetti. Michael was diagnosed with Parkinson’s when he was only 30 and Maria works tirelessly for the charity and was nominated for Scots Woman of the Year by the Evening Times.

The weather was perfect for running with warm sunshine and a cool breeze. The event made the island busy that day and created a great atmosphere in the town. Everyone taking part could run, jog or walk and all had a great time.

A huge thanks to everyone for their support and help. Donations can still be given. Go to the website www.michaelsmovers.org for more information.
