Two friends Louise Scully and Jean King both applied to be Clydesiders for swimming at the Commonwealth Games.

They were both pleased to be selected and then found out later they had both been picked to be swimming medal chaperones for the swimming finals at Tollcross International Swimming Pool. Jean’s daughter Samantha was also picked for swimming carrying the baskets from poolside. The swimming is on the first six days of the Games.

Louise said: “We can enjoy the once in a lifetime experience volunteering experience together. We have the same shifts 5.15 pm until 11.15 pm and we can travel together. There are extra trains running to and from Glasgow to Largs until the early hours of the morning. Our role is to chaperone the medallist as they come out the water and accompany them through media, past doping, first talk with coaches, cool down etc for approximately half an hour until it is time to collect their medal.” Louise and Jean both do a lot of volunteer work. Louise volunteers for her local swim club North Ayrshire. She is a Judge for Scottish Swimming at swimming galas and was assistant coach for ScottishSwimming at the District Regional Programme this year. Jean King qualified last year as a a referee for ScottishSwimming and does many hours volunteering at galas around Scotland.

Louise’s daughter Emma and Jean’s daughters Samantha and Jennifer all swim for North Ayrshire Swim Club.
