New stencils are being used by the council in attempt to get dog owners to improve their behaviour where there is a known problem.
A spokesperson for North Ayrshire Council, said: “We have placed a number of dog fouling stencils across North Ayrshire at locations where dog fouling is a real issue.
“However, these stencils only form one part of our overall Litter, fly-tipping and dog fouling strategy.
“This strategy focuses on the three E’s:   – leaflets, stencils, posters and working with communities and local schools.  Enablement – ensuring adequate provision of dog bags and bins to dispose of fouling.  Enforcement – patrolling areas and issuing fixed penalty notices for offenders.
“Dog fouling is an environmental crime and there is legislation in place that means anyone committing dog fouling can be fined £40 – increasing to £80 from 1 April 2016.
“We are keen to work with communities to help eradicate the issue and would encourage residents to report their dog fouling concerns to us on 01294 310000.”
