Largs Thistle player manager Bryan Slavin won't be at Cumnock on Saturday after being called up to the Old Firm game.

Bryan, who works at Police Scotland, has been assigned to work at the Rangers v Celtic clash on Saturday, meaning he will be missing from the squad on Saturday.

But it is not a concern for Thistle as they expect to have a full squad to pick from for Saturday's match at Townhead Park.

At this early stage of the season, both sides occupy the two bottom slots, so it is all to play for with the good news being that Thistle are likely to have a full squad to pick from.

Bryan said: “In terms of our displays, I am satisfied, but we are not putting the ball into the back of the net. It is small margin, it is mistakes in front of goal from good areas, and then a couple of times not holding the line effectively at the back which is costing us goals. Missing some clear cut chances from scoring, and that is the only difference during the last two games. We will continue to point these out to the boys and hopefully they will take that on board. The more games we play the more we will become accustomed to at this level.”
Bryan added: “I never thought it would be an astronomical rise. It is not a great deal further up than when we are previously at the top end of the First Division - it is just some better players, and we need to think a bit quicker, and make better decisions. That is basically the difference between us having no points and having four or potentially six in the last couple of games.
“I don’t think that the quality from last two games is any greater than what it has been and it is just a matter of getting up to speed and adapting to the quickness of the game.
“Once we acclimatise, we will start getting points on the board. We will keep working away with the players on the training ground. Performances wise we have played well, it is just a case of making the right decisions at the right times.”
Thistle have added to the squad with the signing of Grant Loftus, after he featured on Saturday, and Bryan said the player, who has moved from the East Coast to Inverkip, will add to the squad.
New signing Alex McWaters is on loan until the end of the year from Greenock Morton, and certainly captured the eye against Hurlford.
Speaking about the Cumnock encounter, Bryan said: “I am not sure about them and how they have improved, but we are more concerned about ourselves, and where we are at, and we have definitely improved in terms of the quality of players we have brought in.
“We will be going for the three points, although there is the added expectation that Cumnock and us are a couple of teams in the bottom half of the league, and we are fighting in a mini-league to avoid relegation, but it is early days, and all we are concerned about is getting the points on the board, and getting that confidence.”
Gary Fleming has a shoulder injury, while defender Alan Gilbride has begun light training after a broken toe.
