Largs Thistle 0 Tass 0 (Tass win 3-0 in extra-time)

Thistle young bucks matched their opponents in an entertaining tussle at Barrfields before coming unstuck in extra-time.

Thistle defended robustly at times in this first round PJDYFL League Cup encounter as higher league Tass had some good possession in the first half but failed to penetrate the defence.

And Largs arguably had the best opportunity of the first half with an attack down the left, forcing the keeper into a good save, followed by calls for a penalty kick.

and as Rafferty tried to race on to score, fell under a challenge, but the ref waved away all protests.

The referee had to be replaced at half-time after having treatment from the Tass physio, with local man Dave McPherson stepping into the breach.

Tass were still forcing the matter and Largs had to hold on at times with a good headed clearance off the line  by Jay Little denying the visitors an early second half lead.

There were certainly some feisty challenges going in as the game went on and Tass hit the bar with a 20 yard strike just before the full time whistle.

It had been a valiant display from Largs who had a few brave forays into the Tass half as they tried to find an opening, although Thistle had keeper McElroy to thank for some top drawer saves.

However, Largs ran out of steam in extra-time and Tass scored the opener on 94 minutes after forcing the ball home from close distance after a good run from their forward.

Tass killed off the game on 108 minutes after a cross from the right richocheted off a Largs defender's ankles, as the ball nestled into the bottom left hand corner. It was a cruel blow for Largs who had defended so well in this encounter.

But Tass exploited the tired legs after Thistle had worked so hard during this match and settled matters with a third goal after a firm header from 12 yards out.

Tass finished strongly and smacked the bar again before the full-time whistle.
