A new member of Europe's Ryder Cup team has been getting some tips from 'The Guv'nor' Sam Torrance in the build-up to the international golfing spectacle.

Robert MacIntyre will make his first appearance for Team Europe in Rome later this month after securing the third automatic qualification spot on the European Points List.

With it all to play for in the final event of the year, the 27-year-old came out on top with a tied 55th finish in Switzerland to confirm his place in the team that will head to Marco Simone Golf and Country Club – the site of his second DP World Tour title.

And Robert was delighted to pick the brains of former Ryder Cup skipper Sam Torrance, who hit the winning putt in the 1985 Ryder Cup at The Belfry.

In his Instagram post, Robert said it was a 'great night' he had with the Largs legend, while Rangers and Scotland star Ally McCoist said: "The Guv'nor himself - great photo!'.

Another said: "Great to see big Sam chatting to Bob. Ryder Cup is going to be even better with this young Scot playing."

In November 2020, Oban born Robert claimed his first European Tour title at the Aphrodite Hills Cyprus Showdown.

In September 2022, Robert won his second European Tour event at the DS Automobiles Italian Open.

In July 2023, he shot a 64, including a birdie on the final hole, in the final round of the Genesis Scottish Open. He was eventually beaten by Rory McIlroy, by one shot.

And this month, Robert was named in the 2023 Europe Ryder Cup team.
