Fairlie Primary recently took part in the first of the local cluster primary school tournaments, and emerged triumphant.

Kelburn Primary, St Mary’s and Fairlie took part in a round robin tournament. Fairlie’s first game was against Kelburn Primary and they quickly took control of the game and led 4-0 at half time. It could have been more had it not been for the superb goalkeeping from the young Kelburn goalie, who deservedly ended up winning the player of the tournament.

Kelburn pulled one back, and a further two goals from Fairlie ensured the victory.

In the final game with St Mary’s a draw would have been good enough for Fairlie.

The boys started strongly and after missing a couple of chances they finally took the lead. St Mary’s fought back hard to try and equalise however couldn’t break through and the score remained the same at half time.

The second half was very similar to the first with Fairlie starting strongly. However they took the chances that came their way and were soon 4-0 up and comfortable. St Mary’s pulled one back with a nice move, and a further two Fairlie goals made the game secure.

The boys received their winners’ medals and trophy from Stephen McDonald, who kindly organised the tournament.

A good start to the year then for the boys as they embark on defending the Ayrshire Small Schools Cup.
