Largs Tennis Club had a happy new year as they conquered the mighty Prestwick 1 in the winter league on Sunday evening.
It was the first performance of 2012 for Largs after the Christmas lay-off but there was no sign of rustiness as the local tennis players gained a convincing win.
Malcolm McAulay and Sue Wilkie beat the first couple 8-5, and then the second couple 10-5 in games. Derek Ballantyne and Hazel Koerner beat the second couple 11-3, and lost 7-8 to first couple, to give Largs an overall aggregate victory over their big rivals.
It was a great win for Largs who have a chance of winning the Ayrshire Doubles winter tournament, after reaching the final two years ago. The match was played at Prestwick's indoor tennis centre.
