Get along to Barrfields Park and support the thistle players of tomorrow as Largs Thistle under 19s have a friendly against Renfrew Juniors on Sunday 9 August, 1pm kick-off.

The new set up, which launched this summer, have another friendly arranged against Port Glasgow Juniors under 19s on Wednesday 12 August, 7pm kick-off at Barrfields.

The management team this season will be Andy McGill as manager, supported by Mervyn Dicks and James Sweeney.

Andy said: “Both James and Mervyn are experienced and qualified coaches who have been at Largs Colts and Ardgowan Thistle in the past. Largs thistle ex keeper Stephen Connick has offered his wealth of experience and knowledge to help coach our young keeper.” The new set-up has been organised by Andrew McGill, who will be running the side, which will play at Barrfields 3G and Bowen Craig in the Paisley, Johnstone and District League every Saturday.

Andy said: “Setting up the new under 19 team has created a lot of interest and we have around 18 players so far. We are hoping to entice a lot of local boys to don the Thistle colours and play at Barrfields.

"It is a great opportunity for young boys, and there is always the chance you might get spotted. I don’t like to use the term feeder team, but it gives the management a chance to look at up and coming players, who over the next couple of years might catch the eye.

“There has been a lot of interest through Facebook and twitter, and I would like to thank the Largs Thistle committee for all their help - Thistle have been 100% supportive and thought it was a wonderful idea to set up an under 19s team and it fits into their community club concept.” Anyone who would like to offer sponsorship in any way to cover start up and seasonal operation expenses, i.e. rain jackets, training, t-shirts, kitbags etc all of which can have their company name printed on and a photograph donating to the team in the Largs and Millport Weekly News, please contact mervyn@dicks10.freeserve.co.uk
