There were some golden performances from Largs and Fairlie swimmers during a recent swim competition in East Kilbride.

Members of North Ayrshire Amateur Swim Club travelled to the 50 metre pool at East Kilbride for the West District Senior Age Group Competition last weekend.

This event attracts all the top age group swimmers in the West area from 14 years upwards and has recently been tightened up, so now qualifying for these swims is an achievement in itself.

The highlights from the weekend were: Jennifer King, Largs (17) with 2 golds in the 200 Back and 400 IM, a silver in the 200 Free and bronze in the 200 Fly, a great haul of medals.

Emma Scully, Fairlie (14) was in good form winning 3 golds in her age group for her 200 Back, 400 IM and 100 Back. Another 3 silver medals were also picked up by Emma for 800 Free, 200 IM and 400 Free. Fantastic results.

Connor Tarran, Fairlie (14) won gold in the 400 IM knocking nearly a minute of his previous best time and he won bronze in the 200 IM.

Rebecca Weir, Largs (14) was up against stiff competition in the 200 Breast and was placed 7th in her age group.

James Marshall, Largs (14) competed in 5 different events over the weekend gaining a 5th in the final of the 100 Fly and 6th in 200 Back.

Positive results from the seniors who are doing some tough training sets at the moment in the run up to the Scottish National Age Group Finals at the end of the month.

And in the Clyde Coast Mini League Round 1, the youngest representing North Ayrshire ASC were competing in this exciting competition for swimmers aged from 7 to 11 years.

It involves 17 teams across the west coast from Kintyre to Dumfries, and is played out over three rounds with the top 6 teams going to the final in Ayr in June.

Places in teams are hard won and the atmosphere at these events is electrifying. After a last minute pull out by Oban ASC a hastily re-arranged round 1 was swum at Largs between West Dumbartonshire and North Ayrshire. The volume was deafening and the result only decided on the last swim of the day, a relay which saw the visiting team disqualified after one of their swimmers false started. The young swimmers from both teams gave their all as did the family and friends who packed out the viewing gallery. Well done to all the swimmers, parents, grandparents coaches and supporters for making our first win in a few years a fantastic experience. North Ayrshire are currently in 3rd place in the league table after Round 1.
