Summer is coming ... and Millport is at the ready with a host of events throughout the coming months.

At the end of the month, Millport Golf Club is gearing up to a big summer fete from 1-4pm on Saturday 27 June. There will be a barbecue, home baking, and plenty of stalls, with games for children and adults alike. Phone 530311 for more details.

For real cycling enthusiasts, there is the Tour of Cumbrae Cycle time trials from 11am on Sunday 21 June with HQ at the Town Hall. A hill climb competition event also takes place at 2.15pm. For further details, email hlough@caledonian.ac.uk And for those interested in churches and their history, there will be an ‘enlightening walk and talk’, on the places of worship in Millport, both past and present, on 27 June, Margaret Allan will be presenting the event which starts at the Harbour Restaurant at 2pm.

The Catherdal of the Isles will be commencing its summer concerts on Sundays, starting on 21 June, from 3pm.

And on Saturday 27 June, discover the rock life of Cumbrae with the monthly nature meeting at the Robertson Museum, Field Studies Centre, starting at 11am. Phone 530581 for more details.

And other big calendar dates for your diary later in the year include the Cathedral of the Isles Classical Guitar retreat event from 1-6 July, the nautically themed Sail and Oar festival from 15-16 August, including Raft Race on 16th.

The Scooter Rally will be roaring into Millport over the weekend of 28-30 August, and it is a revamped Country and Western Festival coming between 4-6 September, with the season being rounded off with the ever popular family fun September Weekend celebrations which include the Millport Illuminations and fireworks display over 26-27 September.
